Traveling through from DTX, so decided to try a number of local italian places.

Pretty small and quiant. Gianna seemed pretty drunk, but that might be his personality.

The calazone with sausage was bomb af. I recommend this if you go here.

The stromboli was so-so. It's loaded with onions & meat, but they onions were pretty crunchy, which was off putting. May just be a personal thing, but I don't like crunching through onions with bread.

The pizza was good. Pretty middle of the road. I enjoyed it.

I would get the calazone. The ricotta, bread, & sausage was good.

Pizza was great, but part of order never arrived.  There were only 4 items in order, so I received 75% of it!  Had a craving for fries, but that was no bueno, as that part of the order did arrive

This places online ordering service got my order wrong. When I called then to rectify the situation the man who answered the phone swore at me and told me it was my fault. The food I recieved was complete garbage! Don't order from this place. They will not take responsibility for their mistakes and their food sucks!

Pizza places are a dime a dozen in most medium to large sized cities. You'll find 2-3 in every neighborhood. And Syracuse is no different. So you're never without options when it comes to your pie. People become dedicated to their favorites. And I can imagine Gianni's is probably that way for some.

Neither Naomi or I much felt like cooking after being out all day on Saturday. So we decided to pick up a pizza on the way home. A quick search showed us Gianni's a place we had never been right on Burnet Ave in the Eastwood neighborhood. We called ahead and after a quick browse through the menu we decided we didn't want to be fancy and got their basic large cheese pizza. You can tell a lot about a pizza shop by how they can do the basics. Upon arriving. It was easy to find with a pretty large parking lot for the neighborhood.

The folks behind the counter were very friendly and greeted us when we walked in. And knew who I was going to be by my just saying "I called for a pickup". So either it was a slow night. Or they just pay really close attention. Either way it's nice to be recognized. The shop has a small seating area. Brightly painted with various NYC stuff hanging on the walls. But the thing that tempts you is the large case of homemade cookies and treats next to the register. I was able to beat the urge this time. But they looked so good. I might have to order from here again to try a few of those.

As for the pizza, any basic pie should get three things right. A tasty crust, a nice sauce, and a fair amount of cheese. Anything else is just overkill. The crust here is a thinner crust for the main body of the pie and a bit thicker around the edges. Which is actually my favorite way for pizza to be made. You can tell it's hand stretched and it's not a pre made shell. Had good flavor and a nice chew. Wasn't too crunchy or airy. The sauce was nice as well. Not too chunky, decent on the seasoning and herbs. And no sugar added that I could tell. Nothing worse than a sweet pizza sauce in my opinion. The cheese was slightly lacking. Was a super thin layer and didn't have that nice mozzarella stringy pull. But I did have to drive about 15 minutes home so it might have cooled too much. A thermal delivery bag might prevent that. I can't speak to it.

So 2/3 with the pie. A friendly staff and a nice location with options for home made desserts is a winner for a pizza shop in my opinion. I'll definitely give them a second shot. Some of the best I've had in my little bubble of the city.
